FastField Case Studies

The world took flight in the last ten years. Phones got smart. Desktops grew wings. Software gave birth to a baby named “Mobile Apps.’ But as with any mass transit to a new dimension, some things got left behind. Like mobile forms. The paper-heavy world of business forms couldn’t make the leap to mobility without a helping hand. So we here at Merge Mobile took on the challenge of developing what the mobile workforce needed—a cross-platform, device-independent business forms technology that moves forms to mobile devices. We knew that it couldn’t stop there. To do it right, we had to rock it out of the ballpark by building a mobile forms solution that met every need and wish-list item. The ideal solution had to be:

That’s a daunting requirements list; so we handpicked a team of remarkable technologists who could make it happen. We got the job done, and our patent-pending technology quickly began to turn heads, earning us a special recognition from Apple® as one of the most innovative apps of the year. But we didn’t do this to win awards. We did it because we understand business, and we know what companies need to make profits soar.

Insurance Industry

Claims Investigation

National Insurance Provider of homeowner insurance.
The Problem:
Field personnel relying on cumbersome manual processes, paper forms, and Excel® spreadsheets could not quickly capture and organize homeowner information and assess damages. Data discrepancies and transcription errors further slowed the process. As a result, claims onboarding times often far exceeded industry averages.
Key Goals
Solution / Outcome,
The company chose the FastField mobile platform to collect claims data electronically. Specifically, we worked with the company to design a comprehensive claims submission form that allows field personnel to capture detailed customer information, handling instructions, photos, and asset inventories by room.
FastField’s validation and rules engine automatically verifies data at the collection point to ensure clean submissions. The system also calculates total loss values within the form, adding another validation layer that further reduces inaccuracies.
Submitted claims now automatically feed into the claims adjustment system, so that the company no longer requires subsequent media file uploads or back-office data transcription.
By moving to the FastField system, the company has dramatically reduced turnaround times, lowered costs, and increased claims accuracy—while also improving customer service, satisfaction, and loyalty.

Product Development

Field Testing

International action-sports company engaged in designing, developing, and manufacturing consumer products for the global market.
The Problem:
To a company with an international footprint and a multibillion-dollar brand portfolio, market research and field testing are vital to ensuring product quality and maintaining market position. The company understood that, but it was having difficulty collecting, organizing, and delivering high-grade product feedback and test-result data to its research and development (R&D) teams.
The existing field-testing process employed an antiquated survey website and Excel® spreadsheets. Product test teams include several hundred users, some internal and others from professional sports’ communities around the world.
Among the company’s toughest challenges was the need to collect feedback from product testers in diverse locations. Product testers might include professional golfers, snowboarders, baseball players, racecar drivers, and others— all located in various venues and countries. Without immediate access to their computers, testers often had trouble completing online feedback forms in a timely manner. As competitive athletes, the busy testers also felt burdened by the need to boot up their computers to complete surveys at a later date.
As a result, submission delays were common, and R&D teams often felt feedback received was inadequate. A study revealed that testers would often forget critical elements of their product testing observations because of the time lapse between testing and when they were able to submit feedback. The greater the lag between the testing and survey response, the greater likelihood details would be forgotten.
In addition, the existing system only supported a few generic feedback surveys, which were being used for all products. This limitation kept the company from gaining insights on important product features.
Key Goals
Solution / Outcome,
The company now uses the FastField mobile platform and forms to collect field testing data. The highly flexible system allows the company to tailor surveys for each product test, enabling R&D teams to capture precise feedback on specific focus areas.
The FastField application allows testers to capture and include photos, videos, and audio notes directly from their mobile devices. Instead of uploading through a website at a later date, testers can upload immediately and can also annotate photos to highlight anything they want to call to attention. And because testers are completing surveys as they make observations, R&D teams are benefiting from better feedback quality.
Testers outside Internet coverage areas can still use FastField’s full survey capabilities. The survey data is simply stored on the device and automatically submitted once an Internet connection is made.
The system also allows R&D teams to see individual submissions in detail or look across all submissions. Summary dashboards provide charts, aggregated statistics, and summarizations that help R&D teams quickly identify key trends and patterns.
Using the FastField platform is allowing the company to quickly capture vital product test information, which it is using to refine the R&D processes and product development efforts.
